ZURU's third series of mini books goes full romantasy: Fourth Wing, the ACOTAR saga and a black cat sitting on a black bookshelf. There's already a US preorder, and the box promises 48 to collect.

What Mini Brands Books Series 3 After Dark brings
A black bookshelf with a black cat on top. That's how Mini Brands Books Series 3 shows up, and the change in mood hits you before you even open a capsule.
ZURU hasn't said a word yet, but the capsule already has a preorder listing at a US shop, Ferrara Box, barcode and all. The capsule is pink, same as always. What changes is what's inside. Series 1 and 2 leaned on classics and bestsellers for everyone; this one carries the After Dark subtitle and goes straight for the romantasy and YA titles that took over BookTok: Rebecca Yarros, Sarah J. Maas, Holly Black, Jenny Han.
Did anyone see Fourth Wing fitting in the palm of a hand? Well, there it is on the store display, next to eleven other tiny covers and the usual claim on the side.
The box says 48 to collect, but the store listing talks about over 30 designs. Neither number is a checklist, so take both with a grain of salt until ZURU posts the official list.

Notice the pattern? Three from the Maas saga, two from Yarros, two from The Folk of the Air and three from Jenny Han. Coincidence? Not a chance. Somebody at ZURU looked at the bestseller lists of the last few years and went for exactly what fills the front tables of any bookstore. And that black bookshelf with the cat has every sign of being the piece everybody wants on their display.
The covers you see in the display window are the real editions of each book. Photos of opened minis aren't out yet, and no source mentions rares or a chase.

Ferrara Box is a small US shop, the kind that posts preorders as soon as the distributor sends over the catalog. That's why its date is an ETA, not a launch: the listing itself warns it can move. Is that a long wait? Six months and change, yes, and that's if nothing slips. Neither ZURU nor any big US retailer has said anything about this wave so far. Over here in Spain there's no listing at all.

What After Dark means for Books 3
Then there's the After Dark part. In collector threads some people are already asking whether this series is aimed at an older crowd, since an earlier wave had its own little controversy over a Colleen Hoover book. ZURU hasn't explained the subtitle or published an official age for Books 3, so for now there's nothing to confirm or deny. My read, and it's only that: dark covers and this much fantasy make After Dark sound like an aesthetic, not a warning.
My take: does Books 3 get romantasy right?
I'll be honest: the first screenshot looked fake to me. Mini Brands with Fourth Wing and ACOTAR? Then the barcode showed up at a real store and the doubts were gone.
I think it's a really smart move. Books has always had a crowd that isn't the grocery Mini Brands crowd, people who read and collect at the same time, and romantasy is exactly what's on their nightstand. The black cat, by the way, is a pull that's going to be in demand for trades. You'll see.
What I'm not sold on is the wait. Six months at the very least for the US, and nothing about any other market. And watch that 48 to collect: if half of them are repeated titles or minor accessories, finishing the set one capsule at a time could get expensive.
